The OSG 22612 is a straight flute tap designed for cutting internal metric coarse threads in a wide range of workpiece materials. Built from high-speed steel with an oxide coating, this tap produces M4x0.70 threads in bottoming applications where threads must extend close to the bottom of a blind hole. The bottoming chamfer provides 1 to 2 threads of lead-in, making it suited for situations where through-tap or plug tap access is insufficient. With 3 flutes and a 2B class of fit, it delivers clean thread geometry suitable for precision assembly work. Overall length is 52 mm (approximately 2.05 inches) and thread length is 13 mm (approximately 0.51 inches).
This tap is used in machining, maintenance, and repair operations where metric fastener threads must be cut by hand or with a tapping attachment. Typical applications include tapping blind holes in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, and high-carbon steel components. Avoid forcing the tap — back it off periodically to break chips and prevent binding, especially when working near the bottom of a blind hole.
