The OSG 2233601 is a spiral flute tap designed for cutting 3/4-10 UNC internal threads in ferrous and hardened materials. Built from vanadium high-speed steel with a steam oxide coating, it delivers extended tool life and reduced galling in demanding applications. The 45-degree helix angle drives chips up and out of the hole during tapping, keeping the cutting zone clear. The modified bottoming chamfer allows threading close to the bottom of blind holes. Overall length is 4.921 inches, with a shank diameter of 0.59 inches. Machinists and toolroom professionals install this tap in CNC machining centers, manual mills, and drill presses.
This tap is suited for production and maintenance applications in alloy steel, carbon steel, cast iron, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel. The 2B class of fit meets standard tolerance requirements for general-purpose fastener threads in industrial and OEM manufacturing environments. Right-hand thread direction matches standard UNC fastener orientation. It is appropriate for both high-volume production runs and one-off toolroom work where precise thread form and chip evacuation are critical.
Designed for tapping 3/4-10 UNC threads in alloy steel, carbon steel, cast iron, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel workpieces. Compatible with standard 3/4-inch tap holders and collet systems that accept a 0.59-inch shank diameter.
Installation requires a calibrated tap holder or floating tap adapter to prevent axial overload; rigid tapping setups must maintain precise spindle synchronization with feed rate. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the pilot hole diameter matches the recommended tap drill size for 3/4-10 UNC before starting. Apply appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tool life and maintain thread quality. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping before each use, and never reverse a broken tap with force.
