The OSG 220-1960 is a solid carbide jobber length drill bit designed for precision hole-making in metalworking and machining applications. Sized to wire gauge No. 9 with a decimal diameter of 0.1960 inches (4.98 mm), it features a 118-degree point angle with web-thinned geometry for improved centering and reduced thrust at entry. The bright, uncoated finish suits general-purpose drilling where coating is not required. At 3 inches overall length with a 1.75-inch spiral flute, this bit fits standard drill chucks via its straight-cylindrical shank. Machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and maintenance professionals use it for blind holes, cross holes, and through-hole drilling operations in a range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials.
The OSG 220-1960 is rated for primary workpiece materials including steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, aluminum alloy, and aluminum silicate. It is built for general-purpose performance in production and job-shop environments where consistent diameter tolerance and reliable chip evacuation matter. The two-flute spiral configuration with regular helix handles a broad range of drilling applications including self-centering starts without a pilot hole on properly supported workpieces. This bit is part of OSG Series 220D.
Designed for use in machining centers, drill presses, and hand-held drilling equipment that accept straight-cylindrical shanks. Compatible workpiece materials include steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, aluminum alloy, and aluminum silicate as designated by material codes P, M, K, and N.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician familiar with carbide tooling handling practices. Secure the shank fully in the chuck and verify runout before drilling to avoid chipping the carbide substrate. Coolant-through is not supported on this bit; apply cutting fluid externally as needed for heat management. Carbide is brittle compared to high-speed steel — avoid side loading and do not use this bit for angled entry without a proper guide.
