The OSG 220-1800 is a jobber-length drill bit from the Series 220D line, designed for precision drilling in metalworking and machining applications. It is manufactured from solid carbide with a bright, uncoated finish and features a 118-degree web-thinned point for accurate self-centering on entry. The bit measures 2.75 inches overall length with a 1.625-inch flute length, has a straight-cylindrical shank, and a two-flute spiral configuration with a right-hand cutting direction. Wire size 15 corresponds to a decimal diameter of 0.1800 inches. General-purpose tooling, installed by machinists and tool room technicians on drill presses, CNC machining centers, and handheld power tools.
The 220-1800 is suited for drilling blind holes, cross holes, and through holes in a wide range of workpiece materials. Primary workpiece compatibility includes steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, aluminum alloy, and aluminum silicate. The web-thinned point geometry reduces thrust load and improves centering without a separate spotting operation. Regular spiral geometry promotes efficient chip evacuation during standard drilling cycles. Install in a clean, properly sized drill chuck or collet holder and verify runout before drilling. Solid carbide tooling is brittle compared to high-speed steel; avoid side loading, interrupted cuts without proper feed control, or dropping the bit, as chipping can result. Coolant-through is not supported on this bit; apply external coolant or cutting fluid appropriate to the workpiece material when drilling stainless steel, alloy steel, or cast iron. Confirm spindle speed and feed rate are appropriate for a 0.1800-inch carbide drill in the target material before beginning production runs.
