The OSG 220-1770 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in demanding metalworking applications. Built to Series 220D specifications, it features a wire gauge No. 16 diameter of 0.1770 inches, a 118-degree drill point angle with web thinning for improved self-centering, and a 2-flute spiral configuration with a regular spiral type. The straight-cylindrical shank and bright, uncoated finish make this bit ready for direct chuck mounting without additional prep. With an overall length of 2.75 inches and a flute length of 1.625 inches, it is sized for short-reach, close-tolerance drilling tasks. Machinist technicians, maintenance mechanics, and tool-and-die professionals are the primary users.
This drill bit is suited for production and maintenance drilling in steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, aluminum alloy, and aluminum silicate workpieces. The web-thinned point reduces thrust and improves chip clearing, making it practical for blind hole, cross hole, and standard through-hole drilling operations. It is a general-purpose tool appropriate for both manual drill presses and CNC machining centers where a jobber-length reach is sufficient. The diameter tolerance of plus 0 to minus 0.013 mm supports close-fit hole requirements.
Compatible with workpiece materials including steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, aluminum alloy, and aluminum silicate. Straight-cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks and collet holders accepting 0.1770-inch diameter tooling.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or maintenance technicians familiar with rotating cutting tools. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank firmly in the chuck or collet before operation and verify runout before beginning a cut. Power down and de-energize the machine spindle completely before changing or inspecting the bit. Do not exceed the recommended feed and speed parameters for the workpiece material and machine type in use.
