The OSG 220-1378 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in metalworking applications. It features a 3.5 mm diameter with a 118-degree web-thinned point that reduces thrust and improves self-centering at entry. The straight-cylindrical shank seats securely in standard drill chucks and collets. Overall length is 64 mm with a 35 mm flute length, and the bright uncoated finish keeps the carbide substrate exposed for direct inspection. Two spiral flutes in a regular helix evacuate chips efficiently during through and blind-hole operations. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals specify this bit when tight diameter tolerance is required — the ground tolerance holds within plus 0 to minus 0.013 mm.
The OSG 220-1378 is suited for drilling steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, aluminum alloy, and aluminum silicate workpieces. Typical applications include blind hole drilling, cross-hole drilling, standard through-drilling, and self-centering starts without a pilot hole. The bit performs in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual machines where a jobber-length reach covers most common workpiece depths without sacrificing rigidity. It is sold individually and is appropriate for both production shop floors and maintenance repair operations.
Designed as an OEM-style general-purpose jobber drill bit for use in standard straight-shank drill chucks and collet systems accepting 3.5 mm shank diameters.
This bit is installed by a machinist or toolroom technician in any drill chuck or collet rated for 3.5 mm straight-cylindrical shanks. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is locked out before changing tooling. Verify proper seating depth and runout before beginning a cut. Coolant-through is not supported on this bit, so apply cutting fluid externally when drilling stainless steel, alloy steel, or cast iron to manage heat buildup at the cutting edge.
