The OSG 215-3680 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for precision hole-making in metal and alloy workpieces. Built from solid carbide with a bright/uncoated finish, it delivers consistent performance across a broad range of materials including steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum silicate, nickel alloy, titanium, and titanium alloys. The bit features a 135-degree split point, a right-hand spiral flute, and a web-thinned, tapered-web construction that reduces entry force and improves chip evacuation. At 0.368 inches (letter size U) in diameter, it fits standard straight-cylindrical shank toolholders and is suited for general-purpose production drilling.
This bit is appropriate for use in machine shop environments, CNC drilling operations, and manual drill press setups where short, rigid tooling is preferred to minimize deflection. The slow spiral flute geometry suits harder materials and work-hardening alloys. The 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio provides adequate chip clearance without sacrificing rigidity. It is typically used by machinists and tool-and-die professionals in both job shop and production settings where hole tolerances and tool life are critical.
Designed for use with standard straight-cylindrical shank toolholders and drill chucks accepting 0.368-inch shanks. Suitable for drilling steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum silicate, nickel alloy, titanium, and titanium alloys as stated by the manufacturer.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or tooling professionals. Secure the shank fully in a properly sized drill chuck or collet before operation, and verify spindle runout is within acceptable limits to avoid premature tool wear. Power down and de-energize the machine before changing tooling. Carbide tooling is brittle and should not be subjected to side-loading or interrupted cuts beyond the tool's rated capacity.
