The OSG 215-1800 is a screw machine length solid carbide drill bit designed for high-precision hole-making in demanding industrial and metalworking applications. With a 0.18 inch (wire size #15) diameter and a 135-degree split point, this bit delivers accurate, low-thrust entry without center-punching on most materials. The two-flute spiral design with a slow helix and web-thinned, tapered web configuration reduces cutting resistance and improves chip evacuation. At 2-3/16 inches overall length with a 1-1/8 inch flute length, the shorter-than-jobber body provides added rigidity in CNC and manual drill press setups. Installed by machinists and production shop technicians working to tight tolerances on ferrous and non-ferrous materials.
The OSG 215-1800 is suited for drilling steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum silicate, nickel alloy, titanium, and titanium alloy. The screw machine length format is a common choice for CNC machining centers, turret lathes, and drill press operations where stub-length rigidity reduces deflection and improves hole location accuracy. The bright uncoated finish makes it straightforward to inspect for wear. The straight-cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks and collet holders without modification.
Designed for use in standard straight-shank drill chucks and collet holders on CNC machining centers, turret lathes, and drill presses. Compatible with the OSG Series 215 product family. Suitable for primary workpiece materials including steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum silicate, nickel alloy, titanium, and titanium alloy.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by qualified machinists or tool-room technicians with the machine spindle fully powered down and locked out per facility lockout/tagout procedures. Seat the straight-cylindrical shank fully into the chuck or collet and verify runout before beginning a cut. Do not use this bit in hand-held portable drills where lateral loading could cause carbide fracture. Inspect the cutting edges for chipping or wear at regular intervals, as carbide bits can fail suddenly without visible dulling under heavy loads.
