The OSG 215-1610 is a screw machine length solid carbide drill bit designed for high-precision drilling in demanding metalworking applications. Built to Series 215 standards, it features a 0.161 inch (wire size 20, 4.09 mm) diameter with a 135-degree split point for reduced walking and faster penetration. The bright uncoated finish makes it well-suited for use with cutting fluids. The tapered web and web-thinned geometry reduce thrust and improve chip evacuation in deeper cuts. This bit is intended for use by machinists, toolroom technicians, and production drilling operators working on precision components.
The 215-1610 is rated for general purpose drilling across a broad range of primary workpiece materials including steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum silicate, nickel alloy, titanium, and titanium alloy. Its 1-1/16 inch flute length and 2-1/8 inch overall length suit bench drill presses, CNC machining centers, and manual lathes where a compact stub-style bit is preferred over jobber length. The straight-cylindrical shank fits standard collet chucks and drill press keyless chucks without modification.
Designed as a general purpose screw machine length drill bit for use in standard straight-shank collet chucks and drill press chucks across CNC and manual machine tool setups. Compatible with workpiece materials including steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum silicate, nickel alloy, titanium, and titanium alloy as noted in OSG Series 215 application data.
Installation and use of this drill bit should be performed by qualified machinists or toolroom personnel familiar with cutting tool setup and machine operation. Secure the shank fully in the collet or chuck before starting the spindle, and verify runout is within acceptable limits for the application. Always power down and lock out the machine before changing tooling. Follow applicable shop safety practices and machine manufacturer guidelines for spindle speed and feed rate selection.
