The OSG 215-1285 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for precision drilling in demanding industrial and machining applications. Built from solid carbide with a bright/uncoated finish, this bit offers excellent hardness and wear resistance for cutting through a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. It features a 135-degree split point angle with web thinning for reduced thrust and cleaner entry, a two-flute slow spiral configuration, and a straight-cylindrical shank. Overall length is 1-15/16 inches with a flute length of 15/16 inches. Machinists and tool room operators install this bit in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual lathes where tight tolerances and short, rigid cutting geometry are required.
The 215-1285 is suited for production drilling in steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum silicate, nickel alloy, titanium, and titanium alloy. Its screw machine length geometry provides increased rigidity over jobber-length bits, making it a common choice for short-hole drilling where deflection must be minimized. The 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio supports chip evacuation in moderate-depth holes. This bit is a general-purpose option for shops running mixed-material jobs on standard CNC or manual equipment.
Compatible with steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum silicate, nickel alloy, titanium, and titanium alloy workpieces as specified by the manufacturer. Fits standard drill chucks and collet holders accepting a straight-cylindrical shank in the corresponding diameter range.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians familiar with carbide cutting tools. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing tooling. Solid carbide bits are brittle and should not be subjected to side loads, interrupted cuts without proper setup, or excessive feed rates that can cause chipping or fracture. Verify chuck or collet runout is within acceptable limits before use to protect both the bit and the workpiece.
