The OSG 20556253 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance milling in demanding materials including stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium. It features a 5/8 inch cutting diameter, a 0.09 inch corner radius, and five flutes arranged in a variable helix configuration with variable index spacing. The tool carries an EXO PVD coating, which is a TiAlN-based finish applied to extend tool life and resist heat buildup at the cutting edge. With a 1-1/4 inch length of cut and 3-1/2 inch overall length, this end mill is suited for both roughing and finishing passes in precision machining environments.
This end mill is built for shops running stainless steel, titanium, and high-temperature superalloy components where tool wear and vibration are primary concerns. The variable helix and variable index geometry reduce chatter during aggressive cuts, making it appropriate for aerospace, medical, and energy sector machining applications. It is a single-end, right-hand cut, right-hand flute tool from OSG Series 2055, intended for use in a standard toolholder with a Weldon flat shank. It is center-cutting and does not require coolant-through capability, though flood or mist coolant is compatible with standard toolholders.
Designed for use with standard toolholders accepting a 5/8 inch Weldon flat shank. Primary workpiece materials are stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium, corresponding to ISO material codes M, S, and H. Part of OSG Series 2055.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is clean and free of debris before seating the end mill. Torque the Weldon flat set screw to toolholder manufacturer specifications. Confirm runout with a dial indicator before beginning production cuts, as excessive runout accelerates edge wear on carbide tooling.
