The OSG 20480100 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling operations in metalworking and machining applications. Built from micrograin carbide, it delivers a 1/4 inch cutting diameter with a 1/4 inch length of cut and a 45-degree helix angle that promotes chip evacuation and surface finish quality. The three-flute geometry balances chip load and rigidity, making it well suited for slotting, profiling, and side milling at moderate feed rates. With a 4 inch overall length and an extended reach of 2-1/8 inches, this end mill handles deeper-cavity work without requiring an extended arbor. The bright, uncoated finish suits general-purpose use across a range of ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials.
This end mill is used in CNC machining centers and manual knee mills for precision part production in job shops, tool rooms, and production environments. The long-length configuration and extended reach make it appropriate for milling pockets, slots, and features where standard-length tools cannot access the full depth. Right-hand cutting and right-hand flute direction are standard for conventional spindle rotation. The single-end design means it is replaced when worn rather than indexed. Machinists and CNC operators in general manufacturing, aerospace component shops, and moldmaking operations commonly use this series for tight-tolerance work.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement or standard tooling selection for CNC machining centers and manual mills accepting a 1/4 inch round shank. Part of the OSG Series 2048 long-length end mill line.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC setup technician. The machine spindle must be fully stopped and the tool holder cleaned before seating the shank. Secure the 1/4 inch shank in an appropriately sized collet or end mill holder to the holding system manufacturer's specified clamping torque. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning a cut, as excessive runout accelerates edge wear and degrades surface finish.
