The OSG 20430500 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision material removal in milling operations. Built from micrograin carbide, it delivers the hardness and edge retention required for demanding cutting applications. The 1/2 inch cutting diameter is paired with a 1/2 inch length of cut and a 45-degree helix angle, which promotes efficient chip evacuation and reduces cutting forces. With a 3-inch overall length and extended reach geometry, this end mill fits deeper setups where standard-reach tooling falls short. It is a single-end, right-hand cutting and right-hand flute tool with a bright, uncoated finish suited for dry or lubricated machining environments.
This end mill is used in CNC machining centers and manual milling machines across job shops, aerospace, automotive, and general metalworking environments. The 3-flute configuration balances chip clearance and rigidity, making it well suited for slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The 1/2 inch shank diameter provides secure tool holding in standard collet chucks and end mill holders. The extended reach with a 1-3/8 inch reach length accommodates setups where the cutter must extend beyond the spindle nose to clear workpiece features.
Designed for use in standard 1/2 inch collet chucks, end mill holders, and hydraulic or shrink-fit tool holders rated for 1/2 inch shank tooling on CNC machining centers and manual knee mills.
Installation and tool changes should be performed with the spindle fully stopped and the machine control in an estop or locked-out state per OSHA lockout/tagout requirements. Ensure the shank seating depth meets the tool holder manufacturer minimum engagement specification before tightening. Inspect the collet or holder bore for runout and debris before each tool load, as excessive runout accelerates edge wear and can cause premature tool failure. Use of cutting fluid or minimum quantity lubrication is recommended based on workpiece material and machine capability.
