The OSG 2002100 is a spiral point tap designed for threading 3-48 UNC holes in a wide range of metals. With 2 flutes and a plug chamfer, it pushes chips forward ahead of the cutting zone, making it well suited for through-hole tapping where chip evacuation is a priority. Manufactured from high-speed steel with a bright finish, the tap holds up across aluminum, cast iron, carbon steel, and hardened steel applications. The H5 thread limit provides controlled oversize for reliable thread fit. Overall length is 1.813 inches with a thread length of 0.496 inches and a shank diameter of 0.141 inches. Machinists and maintenance trades install this tap in drill presses, CNC machines, or by hand.
This tap is suited for both production and maintenance threading in light industrial and machine shop environments. The 3-48 UNC thread size is common in small fastener applications such as instrument panels, electronic enclosures, and precision assemblies. The right-hand cutting direction matches standard tapping setups. Rated for use in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, high-carbon steel, and hardened steel, this tap covers the material range typically encountered in general machining work. Series 105 designates OSG standard straight-shank spiral point geometry.
Designed for threading 3-48 UNC through-holes in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, high-carbon steel, and hardened steel workpieces. No coolant-through capability; suitable for use with external cutting fluid application.
Installation and use require a properly sized 3-48 tap drill and a tapping handle, drill press, or CNC tapping attachment with appropriate torque control. Always apply a compatible cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tap life and improve thread quality. Do not reverse the tap without backing off chip load to avoid breakage in harder materials. Secure the workpiece fully before tapping to prevent movement that can break a tap of this small diameter.
