The OSG 1982900 is a spiral point plug tap designed for cutting internal metric fine threads in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Manufactured from high-speed steel with a bright finish, this tap features a 3-flute spiral point geometry that drives chips forward ahead of the cutting zone, making it well suited for through-hole tapping operations. The thread size is M12x1.50 metric fine with a D6 thread limit, providing controlled tolerance for standard metric fine threaded assemblies. Overall length is 85.7 millimeters with a thread length of 1-21/32 inches (23.9 millimeters). Licensed machinists, tool-and-die makers, and maintenance technicians install this tap in manual tap holders or CNC rigid tapping setups.
This tap is used in general metalworking and machining applications where M12x1.50 metric fine threads are required. It is appropriate for both production and maintenance environments. Listed material applications include aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, hardened steel, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, and medium-carbon steel. The plug chamfer style — typically 3 to 5 threads of chamfer — allows the tap to start easily and is the most common choice for through-hole applications. Coolant-through capability is not present on this tap, so flood or brush-applied cutting fluid should be used during tapping operations.

This tap should be installed by a qualified machinist or maintenance technician familiar with tapping procedures and cutting speeds for the workpiece material. Always secure the workpiece fully before beginning the tapping operation and use an appropriate cutting fluid for the material being tapped. Inspect the tap and tap holder for runout before use, and never force a tap that has stalled — back it off to clear chips before continuing.
