The OSG 1982800 is a spiral point plug tap designed for threading M12x1.25 metric fine holes in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Manufactured from high-speed steel with a bright finish, this right-hand tap features a 3-flute spiral point geometry that pushes chips forward ahead of the cutting zone, keeping the flutes clear during through-hole tapping operations. The plug chamfer provides a gradual thread lead-in, reducing entry force and extending tool life. Overall length is 85.7 millimeters with a thread length of 1-21/32 inches (23.9 millimeters) and a shank diameter of 0.3670 inches (9.32 millimeters). Installed by machinists and trade professionals on manual and CNC equipment.
This tap is suited for through-hole threading in production and maintenance environments where M12x1.25 metric fine threads are required. The fine pitch makes it appropriate for applications demanding higher thread engagement strength or reduced thread height, such as fastener bores in automotive components, hydraulic fittings, and precision machinery housings. Compatible material applications include aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, high-carbon steel, and hardened steel, covering a broad range of shop and field tapping tasks.
Designed for through-hole tapping of M12x1.25 metric fine threads in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, high-carbon steel, and hardened steel. Part of OSG Series 142.
This tap should be installed in a tap holder or collet chuck with proper alignment to the pre-drilled pilot hole to avoid tap breakage. Always use an appropriate cutting fluid matched to the workpiece material. Secure the workpiece firmly before tapping and ensure the spindle or tap wrench is aligned perpendicular to the work surface. Inspect threads with a go/no-go gauge after tapping to confirm dimensional compliance.
