The OSG 1982601 is a spiral point plug tap designed for cutting internal metric fine threads in a wide range of materials. Manufactured from high-speed steel with a steam oxide coating, this tap drives chips forward ahead of the cutting edge, making it well suited for through-hole threading applications. The M10x1.00 thread form, 3-flute design, and D5 thread limit allow for controlled chip evacuation and predictable fit in standard tolerance holes. Overall length is 74.60 mm with a 1.25-inch thread length and a shank diameter of 0.381 inches. Installation requires a compatible tap handle, drill press, or CNC tapping program aligned to the correct spindle speed for the material being tapped.
This tap is rated for use in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, hardened steel, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, and medium-carbon steel. The plug chamfer style makes it a general-purpose choice for production and maintenance tapping in through-hole configurations. It is appropriate for machine shops, manufacturing facilities, maintenance and repair operations, and trade professionals who require a reliable metric fine thread tap for light to medium-duty tapping tasks.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement spiral point tap for M10x1.00 metric fine through-hole threading operations in standard tapping chucks and holders accepting a 0.381-inch shank diameter.
Tapping operations should be performed by a qualified machinist or trade professional familiar with thread-cutting procedures and applicable shop safety practices. Ensure the workpiece is securely clamped and the correct tap drill size for M10x1.00 metric fine thread has been used prior to tapping. Apply appropriate cutting fluid for the material being tapped to extend tap life and improve thread quality. Never reverse a broken tap without proper extraction tooling, and always disengage the tap before removing it from a blind hole.
