The OSG 1981902 is a spiral point tap designed to cut metric coarse internal threads in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials. Manufactured from high-speed steel and finished with an elektraLUBE coating, this tap produces M12x1.75 threads to a 6H class of fit with a D6 thread limit. The spiral point geometry pushes chips forward ahead of the cutting zone, making it well suited for through-hole tapping operations. With a plug chamfer and three flutes, this tap provides good chip clearance and consistent thread form entry, and is sized for use in CNC machining centers, manual mills, and drill presses.
This tap is intended for through-hole threading applications across a broad material range including aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, high-carbon steel, and hardened steel. The plug chamfer provides a gradual cutting action that distributes load across several leading threads, reducing tool breakage risk in production environments. A thread length of 1-21/32 inches accommodates standard fastener engagement depths in typical structural and mechanical assemblies. This tap is commonly used in job shops, manufacturing facilities, and maintenance operations requiring reliable M12x1.75 thread cutting.
Suitable for tapping aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, high-carbon steel, and hardened steel workpieces requiring M12x1.75 metric coarse through-hole threads.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the tap is properly aligned to the drilled pilot hole before beginning the threading cycle. Power down or disengage the machine spindle before loading or removing the tap from the holder. Follow shop-standard cutting fluid or dry-cutting procedures consistent with the workpiece material and the elektraLUBE coating on this tool.
