The OSG 1972201 is a straight flute tap designed for cutting M2.5x0.45 metric coarse internal threads in a range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Built from high-speed steel with an oxide coating, it produces right-hand threads to a 6H class of fit with a D3 thread limit. The plug chamfer style makes it suited for through-hole applications where the tap can lead into the work gradually. At 1-13/16 inches overall length with a 1/2 inch thread length, this is a compact, precision ground tap intended for small-diameter threading work in machining and fabrication environments.
This tap is used in machine shop, tool room, and production environments where M2.5 metric threads are required. It performs in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, and high-carbon steel. The straight flute geometry makes it appropriate for through-hole tapping where chips can evacuate forward. It is part of OSG Series 141 and is sold individually, making it a practical replacement or backup for existing tooling setups.
Designed for tapping M2.5x0.45 metric coarse threads in aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, and high-carbon steel workpieces. Part of OSG Series 141.
This tap is installed and operated by machinists, tool and die makers, or maintenance technicians using a tapping machine, drill press, or manual tap wrench. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the pilot hole diameter is correct for M2.5x0.45 before beginning. Apply an appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tap life and improve thread quality. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping before each use and replace if flute edges show damage.
