The OSG 1767101 is a spiral flute extension tap designed for right-hand threading of 10-24 UNC threads in applications requiring extended reach. Built from vanadium high-speed steel with a steam oxide finish, this tap delivers durability and lubricity in demanding threading operations. The modified bottoming chamfer allows threading closer to the bottom of blind holes. With a 30-degree helix angle and 3 flutes, it efficiently evacuates chips upward, reducing the risk of chip packing. The H3 thread limit provides a controlled tolerance for reliable 2B and 3B class-of-fit thread production. Overall length is 4 inches, making it well suited for reaching recessed or deep features inaccessible to standard-length taps.
This extension tap is designed for threading operations in carbon steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel workpieces. The spiral flute geometry makes it particularly effective in blind-hole applications where chip evacuation is critical. This tap should be installed and operated by qualified machinists or tooling technicians familiar with tapping speeds, feeds, and cutting fluid requirements for the workpiece material. Power down and secure the workpiece before tap installation. Use appropriate cutting fluid for the material being threaded, particularly when working with stainless steel. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping before each use to avoid thread damage or tap breakage in the workpiece.
