The OSG 1764701 is a spiral point plug extension tap designed for threading 10-32 UNF holes in a range of ferrous materials. Built from vanadium high-speed steel and finished with a steam oxide coating, it resists wear and reduces friction during the threading operation. The spiral point geometry pushes chips ahead of the tap rather than backing them into the flute, making it well suited for through-hole applications. With an overall length of 4 inches and a reduced shank design, it reaches into recessed or deep-set bosses where a standard-length tap would not fit. Machinists, tool-and-die workers, and maintenance technicians install this tap using a standard tap wrench or CNC tapping head.
This tap is used in production and maintenance threading of 10-32 UNF through holes in carbon steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel workpieces. The 4-inch overall length provides the reach needed for extended-depth fixtures, jigs, or assemblies where access is restricted. The H3 thread limit and Class 2B/3B fit make it appropriate for standard tolerance fastener applications across both light manufacturing and heavy maintenance environments. It is sold individually and is part of OSG Series 397.
Designed for threading 10-32 UNF through holes in carbon steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel. Compatible with standard tap wrenches, T-handle wrenches, and CNC tapping heads that accept a 0.194-inch shank diameter with a 0.152-inch square drive.
This tap is installed by licensed machinists or qualified maintenance technicians using appropriate tapping equipment. Always secure the workpiece and ensure the tap is properly aligned with the pilot hole before applying torque to avoid tap breakage. Use a cutting fluid appropriate to the workpiece material, particularly when threading stainless steel. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping before each use and replace if the cutting edges show damage.
