The OSG 1762308 is a spiral flute tap designed for cutting 9/16-18 UNF internal threads in a range of ferrous materials. Built from vanadium high-speed steel and finished with a TICN coating, it delivers extended tool life when threading stainless steel, high-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, and low-carbon steel. The 45-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation up and out of the hole, reducing the risk of chip packing in blind or semi-blind applications. The modified bottoming chamfer allows threading closer to the bottom of a hole than a plug tap permits. This tap is suited for use by machinists, tool-and-die makers, and maintenance technicians running manual or CNC tapping operations.
The OSG 1762308 is intended for right-hand threaded blind or through-hole applications where a fine-pitch UNF thread is required. The 3B class of fit produces a standard tolerance thread suitable for most fastener and assembly applications. The H3 thread limit provides consistent sizing across production runs. This tap does not feature coolant-through capability, so external or flood coolant delivery should be used where heat buildup is a concern during high-cycle or deeper-hole operations.
Designed for cutting 9/16-18 UNF right-hand threads in stainless steel, high-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, and low-carbon steel. No specific machine or toolholder compatibility data was provided in the product input.
This tap should be installed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician familiar with tapping operations and cutting tool handling. Power down or disable any CNC or manual machine before inserting or removing the tap from its holder. Use appropriate tapping fluid or flood coolant to manage heat, as this tap does not have coolant-through capability. Inspect the tap for chipping or wear before each use, and never force a tap that has stalled, as breakage in the workpiece is difficult to recover from.
