The OSG 1757508 is a spiral point tap designed for cutting 10-32 UNF internal threads in demanding materials. It features a plug chamfer, 3-flute geometry, and a titanium carbonitride (TiCN) coating over a powdered metal body. The spiral point design pushes chips ahead of the tap and out of the hole, making it well suited for through-hole tapping applications. With an H3 thread limit and a Class 2B fit, it produces consistent tolerances across production runs. Overall length is 2.374 inches with a thread length of 0.5 inches. This tap is installed by machinists, toolroom technicians, and field maintenance trades requiring precise threaded holes in hard or abrasion-resistant workpieces.
The OSG 1757508 is rated for use in hardened steel, stainless steel, high-nickel alloys, titanium, alloy steel, and die steel. These are among the more demanding materials encountered in aerospace, defense, automotive, and heavy industrial maintenance work. The plug chamfer makes it appropriate for both starter and continuation tapping in through-hole setups. It is not designed for blind-hole applications where chip evacuation to the front is a concern. Right-hand thread direction is standard for conventional machine or hand tapping operations.
Designed for through-hole tapping of 10-32 UNF threads in hardened steel, stainless steel, high-nickel alloy, titanium, alloy steel, and die steel. OSG Series 312.
Tapping operations should be performed by a qualified machinist or maintenance technician using a properly aligned tapping machine, drill press, or hand tap wrench. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the pilot hole diameter matches the recommended tap drill size for 10-32 UNF before starting. Apply an appropriate cutting fluid or tapping compound for the workpiece material — this tap does not have internal coolant-through capability. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping before each use and do not force a damaged tap, as breakage in hardened materials is difficult to recover from.
