The OSG 1757308 is a spiral point plug tap designed for cutting internal threads in demanding materials. Built from powdered metal and finished with a TiCN coating, it is engineered for threading hardened steel, stainless steel, high-nickel alloys, titanium, alloy steel, and die steel. The tap features a 3-flute, right-hand spiral point design in an 8-32 UNC thread form with an H3 thread limit and a 2B class of fit. Overall length is 2.126 inches with a thread length of 0.381 inches. This tool is suited for machine tapping operations where chip-pushing performance and coating durability are required.
This tap is applied in precision threading of through-hole applications across ferrous and exotic alloy workpieces. Its plug chamfer makes it well-suited for starting in a hole and progressing through the full thread depth. Common installation environments include aerospace, tool-and-die, and precision machining shops where hard and abrasion-resistant materials are routinely threaded at 8-32 UNC. The TiCN coating extends tool life in high-wear conditions compared to uncoated tooling. Series 312 designation identifies this tap within the OSG product line for replacement and reorder purposes.
Rated for use in hardened steel, stainless steel, high-nickel alloy, titanium, alloy steel, and die steel. Designed as an OEM-style threading tool for 8-32 UNC through-hole applications in machine tapping setups.
This tap is installed by qualified machinists using standard tapping equipment or CNC machining centers. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the spindle is properly aligned before engaging the tap. Use appropriate cutting fluid or tapping compound for the workpiece material to reduce heat buildup and extend tool life. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping before each use, particularly when working with hardened or exotic alloy materials.
