The OSG 1755701 is a spiral flute tap designed for cutting M5x0.80 metric coarse internal threads in a range of steel materials. Built from vanadium high-speed steel with a steam oxide coating, it provides wear resistance and reduced friction during the tapping operation. The modified bottoming chamfer allows threading close to the bottom of a blind hole, making it well suited for applications where thread depth is critical. With a 45-degree helix angle and right-hand flute direction, the tap efficiently evacuates chips upward out of the hole. Overall length is 2.938 inches with a shank diameter of 0.381 inches.
This tap is intended for use in machining, fabrication, and maintenance environments where M5x0.80 metric threads are required. It performs in stainless steel, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, and medium-carbon steel workpieces. The modified bottoming style makes it a practical choice when threading blind holes that require maximum thread engagement. It is appropriate for use in CNC tapping, manual tapping machines, and hand-tap applications by machinists, tool and die technicians, and maintenance mechanics.
Rated for use in stainless steel, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, and medium-carbon steel. Designed as an OEM-style cutting tool replacement for M5x0.80 metric coarse tapping applications requiring a 6H class of fit and modified bottoming chamfer.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or maintenance technicians familiar with tapping operations. Before use, ensure the workpiece is securely clamped and the pilot hole diameter is correct for M5x0.80 metric threads per applicable standards. Apply appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material, particularly when tapping stainless steel. Do not exceed the recommended speed range for high-speed steel taps in the material being threaded, and avoid forcing the tap if resistance increases unexpectedly.
