The OSG 17550211 is a taper length cobalt drill bit designed for demanding metal-cutting applications in industrial and production environments. Built from M-6K cobalt high-speed steel and finished with OSG WXL coating, this bit delivers extended tool life when drilling through tough ferrous and non-ferrous materials. It features a 120-degree standard point angle, right-hand spiral flute with fast helix, and a straight shank sized at 11/32 inch (0.3438 inches). The R-thinned web reduces thrust requirements at entry and improves chip evacuation in deep-hole drilling scenarios. Machinists and tooling technicians working in job shops, fabrication facilities, and production lines are the primary users.
This drill bit is suited for use in vertical mills, drill presses, and CNC machining centers where taper length geometry provides added reach beyond standard jobber lengths. The fast spiral flute promotes efficient chip removal, making it particularly effective in interrupted cuts and stringy materials. Compatible material applications include alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, cast iron, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel. The WXL finish provides lubricity and heat resistance that extends tool life in high-speed production drilling without coolant through the tool.
Designed for use in drill presses, vertical mills, and CNC machining centers capable of accepting a straight shank drill bit. Rated for drilling alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, cast iron, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel.
This bit is installed and changed by machinists or tooling technicians. Secure the straight shank firmly in a properly sized drill chuck or collet before operation. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is powered down before changing tooling. Do not exceed the recommended cutting parameters for the workpiece material; consult the OSG Series 1750 cutting data chart for speed and feed guidance specific to your material.
