The OSG 17549911 is a taper length drill bit built for high-performance metal cutting across a wide range of materials. Constructed from HSS-E cobalt (M6K grade), it carries a WXL coating for extended tool life and reduced friction in demanding applications. The bit features a 120-degree point angle with a standard point type and R-thinned web for improved chip evacuation and easier center engagement. With a 21/64 inch diameter, a spiral flute length of 110 millimeters, and an overall length of 165 millimeters, this bit is suited for production drilling where reach and rigidity both matter. It is installed by machinists, tool-and-die workers, and maintenance technicians working in metal fabrication and general manufacturing environments.
This drill bit is designed for use on alloy steel, carbon steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, die steel, and hardened steel. The fast spiral flute geometry promotes aggressive chip removal, making it appropriate for both CNC and manual drill press setups where material work-hardening or heat buildup is a concern. The straight cylindrical shank accepts standard drill chucks without a reducing sleeve or adapter. It is a strong fit for shops running stainless or hardened steel where standard HSS tooling underperforms.
Designed for use in standard drill chucks on CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual machines where a straight-shank taper length bit is required. Rated for drilling alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, cast iron, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel per OSG Series 1750 application guidelines.
This bit is installed by machinists or maintenance technicians using a standard drill chuck sized for a 21/64 inch straight shank. Secure the shank fully in the chuck before operation and verify runout is within acceptable limits for the application. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling stainless steel, hardened steel, or cast iron to manage heat and prolong tool life. Do not exceed the recommended feed and speed parameters for the workpiece material.
