The OSG 1754901 is a spiral flute tap designed for cutting 8-32 UNC internal threads in demanding materials. It features a modified bottoming chamfer, 2 right-hand spiral flutes with a 15-degree helix angle, and a steam oxide coating over a powdered metal construction. The spiral flute geometry pulls chips up and out of the hole, making it well suited for blind-hole tapping where chip evacuation is critical. At 2.125 inches overall length with a 0.168-inch shank diameter, it fits standard tap holders and chucks used in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual tapping operations. Licensed machinists and tool-and-die tradespeople are the primary installers.
This tap is intended for threading blind holes in alloy steel, stainless steel, hardened steel, titanium, and high-nickel alloys. The modified bottoming chamfer allows the tap to cut closer to the bottom of a blind hole than a plug chamfer while still providing enough lead to start squarely. It is a fit for production machining, job-shop work, and maintenance-repair-operations environments where tough materials and tight thread tolerances are routine. Thread limit H6 indicates a slight oversize condition appropriate for plated or coated fastener applications.

Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist familiar with tapping speeds, feeds, and cutting fluid requirements for the target material. Ensure the spindle and tap holder are properly aligned before engagement to prevent tap breakage. Use an appropriate cutting fluid or tapping compound for the workpiece material, particularly when working with stainless steel, titanium, or high-nickel alloys. Do not reverse the tap under load without confirming the holder supports reversal, and never exceed the tap's rated capacity for the material being threaded.
