The OSG 1754801 is a spiral flute tap designed for cutting 8-32 UNC internal threads in a range of demanding materials. It features a 2-flute, right-hand spiral design with a 15-degree helix angle that evacuates chips upward out of the hole — a critical advantage when tapping blind holes. The modified bottoming chamfer allows threading close to the bottom of a hole while maintaining controlled chip flow. Manufactured from powdered metal and finished with a steam oxide coating, this tap is built for resistance to wear and heat in production tapping environments. Overall length is 2.125 inches.
This tap is suited for threading 8-32 UNC holes in alloy steel, stainless steel, hardened steel, titanium, and high-nickel alloys. The modified bottoming chamfer makes it a strong choice in applications where full thread depth near the bottom of a blind hole is required. It is appropriate for CNC machining centers, manual tapping, or any fixture-guided tapping operation where chip evacuation is a priority. The H5 thread limit provides a controlled oversize condition for accurate thread fit in tight-tolerance assemblies.

Tapping operations should be performed by a machinist or tooling professional using a properly aligned tap holder or tapping head. Ensure the workpiece and tap are securely fixtured before beginning the thread cycle. Apply an appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to reduce friction and extend tap life. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping before each use — a damaged tap can seize in the hole and cause workpiece damage.
