The OSG 1754108 is a spiral flute tap designed for cutting 4-40 UNC internal threads in demanding materials. Built from powdered metal and finished with a TICN coating, this tap handles alloy steel, stainless steel, hardened steel, titanium, and high-nickel alloys. It features a modified bottoming chamfer for threading close to the bottom of blind holes. With 2 right-hand spiral flutes at a 15-degree helix angle and an H3 thread limit, it delivers controlled chip evacuation and consistent thread form. Overall length is 1.875 inches. Licensed machinists and tool-and-die technicians are the primary installers.
This tap is suited for precision tapping operations in aerospace, defense, medical device, and industrial manufacturing environments where tight tolerances and difficult workpiece materials are common. Its modified bottoming chamfer makes it appropriate for blind-hole applications requiring threads close to the bottom of the hole. The TICN coating reduces friction and extends tool life in high-hardness and abrasive material applications. It is sold individually and is compatible with standard tap holders and CNC tapping attachments sized for 4-40 tooling.
Designed for cutting 4-40 UNC right-hand internal threads in alloy steel, stainless steel, hardened steel, titanium, and high-nickel alloys. Fits standard tap holders and machine tapping chucks sized for 4-40 tooling.
This tap should be installed by a qualified machinist following standard tapping procedures for the workpiece material. Ensure the spindle and workpiece are properly secured before tapping operations begin. Use appropriate cutting fluid or lubricant for the material being tapped, even though coolant-through is not required. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping before each use, particularly when working with hardened or abrasive alloys.
