The OSG 1753601 is a spiral flute tap designed for cutting 5/8-11 UNC internal threads in a wide range of challenging materials. It features a modified bottoming chamfer, allowing threads to be cut close to the bottom of a blind hole. Built from powdered metal with a steam oxide coating, this tap delivers improved wear resistance and lubricity compared to standard high-speed steel. The 4-flute spiral configuration with a right-hand helix angle of 15 degrees efficiently evacuates chips up and out of the hole. Machinists and tooling professionals in production and job-shop environments are the primary users of this tap.
This tap is suited for threading blind and through holes in alloy steel, stainless steel, hardened steel, titanium, and high-nickel alloys. The modified bottoming chamfer makes it appropriate for applications where full thread depth close to the hole bottom is required. OSG Series 313 taps are commonly used in CNC machining centers and manual tapping operations where consistent thread quality and tool life are critical. The 3B class of fit specifies a standard tolerance range appropriate for general-purpose threaded assemblies.
Designed for use in alloy steel, stainless steel, hardened steel, titanium, and high-nickel alloy workpieces requiring 5/8-11 UNC internal threads with a 3B class of fit. Compatible with standard tap holders and chucks sized for a 0.48-inch shank diameter.
This tap is installed by machinists or tooling professionals using a compatible tap holder, CNC rigid tapping cycle, or manual tapping wrench. Always ensure the drill hole diameter is correct for 5/8-11 UNC before tapping and that the workpiece is securely fixtured. Apply appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material, particularly when working with stainless steel, titanium, or high-nickel alloys. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping before each use and replace if thread quality degrades.
