The OSG 1745100 is a straight flute machine tap designed for cutting 6-32 UNC internal threads in ferrous metals and hardened materials. Built from cobalt high-speed steel with a bright/uncoated finish, it delivers the heat and wear resistance needed for tough material applications. The plug chamfer provides a standard entry angle suited for through-hole tapping operations. With 3 flutes and an H3 thread limit, this tap maintains consistent tolerance control in production and maintenance tapping work. It is installed by machinists, tool and die makers, and maintenance technicians working on threaded fastener applications in industrial and manufacturing environments.
This tap is suited for tapping alloy steel, cast iron, die steel, and hardened steel workpieces. The 6-32 UNC thread form and 2B class of fit make it a standard choice for machine screws and fastener applications across light manufacturing, tool and die, and general machine shop work. The right-hand thread direction aligns with conventional tapping operations using standard tapping machines, drill presses, or hand-tap holders.
Rated for use in alloy steel, cast iron, die steel, and hardened steel. Part of OSG Series 305 straight flute machine taps.
Installation is performed by machinists or maintenance technicians using a tapping machine, drill press, or hand-tap wrench. Always secure the workpiece and ensure the tap is properly aligned with the pilot hole before starting. Apply appropriate cutting fluid for the material being tapped to extend tool life and improve thread quality. Replace worn taps before they break in the hole to avoid extraction complications.
