The OSG 1737308 is a spiral point plug tap designed for cutting 10-32 UNF internal threads in a range of ferrous materials. Built from Vanadium High Speed Steel (HSS-E) and finished with a TiCN (Titanium Carbonitride) coating, this tap delivers improved wear resistance and heat tolerance compared to standard uncoated HSS taps. The plug chamfer distributes cutting load across several leading threads, making it well suited for through-hole tapping operations. With 3 flutes and a right-hand thread direction, it pushes chips forward ahead of the tap during the cut. Overall length is 2.374 inches with a thread length of 0.875 inches.
This tap is intended for use in through-hole applications in hardened steel, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, and stainless steel. It is a standard production-shop tap used by machinists, maintenance technicians, and tool-and-die workers in both manual and CNC tapping operations. The H5 thread limit designation indicates a controlled oversize tolerance, appropriate for tapping threads that will receive standard class 2B or 3B fits. The TiCN coating extends tool life in higher-volume or abrasive material applications.
Suited for tapping 10-32 UNF through-holes in hardened steel, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, and stainless steel workpieces. Designed as an OEM-style production tap for use in standard 10-32 UNF tapping applications.
This tap is installed and operated by machinists or maintenance technicians using a tap wrench, tapping head, or CNC rigid tapping cycle. Before use, ensure the pilot hole is drilled to the correct tap drill diameter for 10-32 UNF. Use an appropriate cutting fluid or tapping compound for the workpiece material, particularly when tapping stainless or hardened steel. Do not exceed the recommended speed for the workpiece material and do not reverse the tap without breaking the chip connection first.
