The OSG 1736508 is a spiral point plug tap designed for cutting 10-32 UNF internal threads in a range of ferrous materials. Built from Vanadium High Speed Steel (HSS-E) and finished with a Titanium Carbonitride (TiCN) coating, this tap delivers extended tool life and resistance to heat buildup in demanding threading applications. The spiral point geometry pushes chips forward ahead of the cut, making it well-suited for through-hole threading operations. With 3 flutes, an H2 thread limit, and a 3B class of fit, it produces accurate threads within standard tolerance ranges. Overall length is 2.374 inches with a thread length of 0.5 inches and a shank diameter of 0.194 inches.
This tap is used in machine shop, maintenance, and production environments where 10-32 UNF threads are required in through-hole applications. Rated material applications include hardened steel, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, and stainless steel. The right-hand thread direction and plug chamfer make it a standard choice for CNC tapping, drill press, and tapping arm setups. It is sold individually and suits both production and toolroom use across industrial, HVAC equipment manufacturing, and general mechanical assembly workflows.
Designed for through-hole 10-32 UNF tapping in hardened steel, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, and stainless steel workpieces. Suitable for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual tapping arms that accept standard tap shank diameters.
Tapping operations should be performed by a machinist or toolroom technician familiar with proper speeds and feeds for HSS taps. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the tap is properly aligned before engaging the cut to prevent tap breakage. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant for the workpiece material, particularly when tapping stainless steel. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping regularly, as a worn tap will produce out-of-tolerance threads.
