The OSG 1735808 is a spiral point plug tap designed for cutting 6-32 UNC internal threads in a wide range of ferrous materials. Built from Vanadium High Speed Steel (HSS-E) with a TiCN (Titanium Carbonitride) coating, this tap offers improved wear resistance and lubricity compared to uncoated HSS tools. The plug chamfer distributes cutting forces across several leading threads, making it well suited for through-hole tapping applications. With an overall length (OAL) of 2 inches and a thread length of 0.6875 inches, the 1735808 fits standard tap holders and drill press chucks used in production and maintenance machining. Licensed machinists, tool and die makers, and maintenance technicians are the typical end users.
This tap is intended for tapping 6-32 UNC threads in through-hole applications across a variety of materials including low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel. The TiCN coating makes it a practical choice when tapping abrasive or work-hardening materials where uncoated taps wear prematurely. It is suited for both manual tapping operations and CNC or turret applications using synchronized tapping attachments. The H2 thread limit produces a standard 3B class of fit, which covers the majority of general-purpose fastener and assembly requirements.

This tap should be installed in a properly aligned tap holder or tapping head to prevent cross-threading and tap breakage. Always secure the workpiece before tapping and apply a suitable cutting fluid or tapping compound appropriate for the workpiece material. For hand tapping, use a calibrated tap wrench and back off periodically to break chips. For machine tapping, verify spindle speed and feed rate are matched to the material and tap size before engaging the cycle.
