The OSG 1724601 is a spiral flute tap designed for cutting 10-32 UNF internal threads in ferrous materials. Built from vanadium high-speed steel with a steam oxide coating, it delivers solid wear resistance in production and maintenance tapping operations. The 45-degree right-hand helix angle drives chips up and out of blind holes, reducing the risk of chip packing that causes tap breakage. At 2.375 inches overall length with a modified bottoming chamfer, this tap threads close to the bottom of a blind hole without requiring a separate bottoming tap in most applications. Class of fit is 3B with an H2 thread limit, producing threads within standard tolerance for most general-purpose fastening assemblies.
This tap is suited for threading stainless steel, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, and medium-carbon steel. It is commonly used by machinists, tool-and-die workers, and maintenance technicians in job shops, manufacturing facilities, and MRO operations where 10-32 UNF threads are required in blind-hole applications. The modified bottoming chamfer makes it practical for through-holes as well, giving it versatility on the bench or at the machine.
Designed for cutting 10-32 UNF internal threads per standard tolerances. Rated for use in stainless steel, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, and medium-carbon steel. Part of OSG Series 303.
This tap is installed and operated by machinists or maintenance technicians using a tap wrench, tapping head, or CNC machine spindle. Always secure the workpiece before tapping and use an appropriate cutting fluid or tapping compound for the material being threaded. Power down and de-energize any machine before changing tooling. Do not reverse a spiral flute tap under power in blind holes without confirming the machine cycle supports it, as improper reversal can cause tap breakage.
