The OSG 1722901 is a spiral flute tap designed for cutting 5/16-24 UNF internal threads in a range of steel materials. With a 45-degree helix angle and modified bottoming chamfer, it pulls chips up and out of the hole during tapping, making it well suited for blind-hole applications where chip packing is a concern. The tap is manufactured from vanadium high-speed steel and finished with a steam oxide coating to reduce friction and improve wear resistance. It conforms to a 2B class of fit and an H4 thread limit, producing threads that meet standard tolerance requirements for general mechanical assembly.
