The OSG 1722601 is a spiral flute tap designed for cutting 1/4-20 UNC internal threads in ferrous materials. Built from vanadium high-speed steel with a steam oxide coating, it delivers good wear resistance and chip evacuation in blind-hole applications. The 45-degree right-hand helix drives chips up and out of the hole, reducing the risk of chip packing. With a modified bottoming chamfer, it threads closer to the bottom of a blind hole than a plug or taper tap. The H5 thread limit and 2B class of fit suit standard commercial threading tolerances. Machinists, tool-and-die makers, and maintenance technicians install this tap by hand or with a tapping attachment.

The 1722601 is suited for threading blind and through holes in stainless steel, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, and medium-carbon steel. The modified bottoming geometry makes it a practical choice when thread engagement must extend close to the hole bottom without a full bottoming tap sequence. Installation Notes

Do not reverse the tap to break chips when using the spiral flute design, as the helix evacuates chips continuously during forward feed.
