The OSG 1722508 is a spiral flute tap designed for cutting 10-32 UNF internal threads in a range of steel workpieces. Built from vanadium high-speed steel and finished with a TiCN (titanium carbonitride) coating, this tap delivers improved wear resistance and lubricity compared to uncoated tooling. The modified bottoming chamfer allows threading closer to the bottom of a blind hole than a standard plug tap. With a 45-degree helix angle, the spiral flute design pulls chips up and out of the hole, reducing the risk of chip packing during the tapping cycle. Overall length is 2.375 inches. This tap is intended for machining operations requiring precise, right-hand 32-thread-per-inch internal threads.
The OSG 1722508 is suited for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual tapping operations where 10-32 UNF threads are required. Rated material applications include stainless steel, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, and medium-carbon steel. The H5 thread limit designation indicates a slightly oversize tolerance class, accommodating typical plating allowances or tighter fits depending on application requirements. This tap does not support coolant-through delivery, so external or flood cooling should be used when processing heat-sensitive or abrasion-prone materials.
Designed for use in standard tap holders and CNC tooling chucks sized for a 0.194-inch shank diameter. Suitable for machining stainless steel, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, and medium-carbon steel workpieces requiring 10-32 UNF internal threads.
This tap should be installed in a tap holder or collet chuck appropriate for a 0.194-inch shank. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the tap is properly aligned to the drilled hole before beginning the tapping cycle to avoid tap breakage. Apply cutting fluid or flood coolant when tapping stainless or high-carbon steels to manage heat buildup. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping after extended use, particularly when working with stainless steel.
