The OSG 1719601 is a spiral flute tap designed for cutting 10-24 UNC internal threads in demanding materials. Built from powdered metal with a steam oxide coating, this tap handles stainless steel, hardened steel, titanium, and high-nickel alloys where standard high-speed steel taps fall short. The 3-flute spiral design evacuates chips upward and out of the hole, reducing clogging in blind-hole applications. The modified bottoming chamfer allows threading closer to the bottom of a blind bore than a standard plug or taper tap. With an H5 thread limit, this tap produces a slightly oversize thread for controlled fit in challenging workpieces. Installed by machinists and tool and die professionals in CNC and manual tapping operations.
This tap is suited for blind-hole tapping in tough aerospace, automotive, and industrial materials including stainless steel, hardened steel, titanium, and high-nickel alloys. The modified bottoming chamfer makes it the right choice when thread depth must extend near the bottom of a drilled hole. The right-hand spiral flute and right-hand thread cut in the conventional direction, compatible with standard tapping heads and CNC rigid tapping cycles. Overall length of 2.375 inches keeps it accessible in most standard tap holders.
Designed for 10-24 UNC tapping applications in stainless steel, hardened steel, titanium, and high-nickel alloys. Compatible with standard tap holders, tapping heads, and CNC rigid tapping setups that accept straight-shank taps of 0.194-inch shank diameter.
Install and remove taps only with the machine spindle stopped and the workpiece securely clamped. Use appropriate cutting fluid or tapping compound rated for the workpiece material, particularly when threading stainless or titanium. Verify correct tap drill size for 10-24 UNC before starting to avoid tap breakage. Follow shop-standard speeds and feeds for powdered metal taps in the specific material being threaded.
