This tap is used in applications requiring STI (Screw Thread Insert) threads, which are designed to accept helical wire inserts that restore or strengthen threaded holes in softer base materials such as aluminum, magnesium, and cast iron. Replace the tap if chipping, galling, or excessive torque is observed to avoid damaging the workpiece thread.
