The OSG 1653504908 is a spiral point tap in the EXOTAP VC-10 series, designed for through-hole tapping in a wide range of metals. It features a 3/4-10 thread size with a plug chamfer and a 2B class of fit, making it suitable for standard unified thread tolerances. Built from powdered metal high-speed steel and finished with a TiCN coating, this tap delivers improved wear resistance and heat tolerance compared to standard HSS tooling. With a 30.5 mm thread length and a 200 mm overall length, it is sized for production tapping applications where reach and thread engagement both matter. Licensed machinists and tool-and-die professionals are the primary users.
This tap is suited for through-hole tapping operations in both job-shop and production environments. The TiCN coating makes it appropriate for aggressive materials including alloy steel, stainless steel, hardened steel, die steel, cast iron, high-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, aluminum, cast aluminum, and similar metals. The H5 thread limit and right-hand thread direction are standard for most general-purpose tapping fixtures and CNC tapping heads. The plug chamfer provides a gradual thread lead-in and is the preferred style for through-hole work.
Designed for use in standard tapping chucks, CNC machining centers, and manual tapping fixtures configured for 3/4-10 right-hand tapping with a 0.59 inch shank diameter.
Installation and use of this tap should be performed by qualified machinists familiar with thread tapping operations. Secure the tap in a properly sized chuck or tapping head before engaging the workpiece. Apply appropriate cutting fluid or flood coolant during use to manage heat and chip evacuation. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping before each use, and never force a tap that has seized in the hole, as breakage can result in costly workpiece damage.
