The OSG 1653009508 is a spiral point tap designed for cutting M24x3.00 metric internal threads in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Built from powdered metal and finished with a TiCN coating, this tap delivers extended tool life in demanding production and job-shop environments. The plug chamfer provides a gradual thread lead-in, making it well suited for through-hole tapping applications. With a 3-flute spiral point geometry, chips are pushed ahead of the cutting zone, reducing clog risk and enabling consistent thread quality at moderate to high feed rates. The D8 thread limit supports 6H class of fit tolerances. Licensed machinists and toolroom technicians are the primary users of this tool.
This tap is intended for through-hole tapping operations across a broad range of materials including alloy steel, aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, hardened steel, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, stainless steel, and die steel. It fits production CNC machining centers, drill presses, and tapping machines where rigid or floating tap holders are used. The EXOTAP VC-10 style designation indicates suitability for higher-speed tapping cycles common in automated production lines. Right-hand thread direction is standard. No coolant-through feature is included, so external or flood coolant delivery should be planned accordingly.
Designed for use in standard tap holders, rigid tapping chucks, and floating collet systems that accept the shank diameter of 0.76 inches. Suitable for through-hole tapping in alloy steel, aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, hardened steel, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, stainless steel, and die steel as specified by OSG for this tool series.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists familiar with tapping operations and machine tool safety. Before mounting, ensure the spindle and workpiece are fully stopped and secured. Verify that the tap holder is rated for the shank diameter and that proper alignment is confirmed to avoid tap breakage. External or flood coolant should be used since this tap does not include a coolant-through feature; follow the machine tool manufacturer and shop safety guidelines for cutting fluid selection and delivery.
