The OSG 1653004908 is a spiral point tap designed for threading M10x1.25 holes in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Part of the OSG EXOTAP VC-10 Series 16530, it features a V coating applied over a powdered metal substrate, improving lubricity and wear resistance during high-production tapping operations. The plug chamfer style provides a gradual thread lead-in, making it well suited for through-hole applications. With 3 flutes and a right-hand thread direction, this tap pushes chips forward ahead of the cutting zone, reducing chip packing and improving hole quality. The 6H class of fit delivers a standard tolerance thread suitable for most general-purpose fastener applications.
This tap is intended for use in through-hole tapping operations across a broad spectrum of materials including alloy steel, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, high-carbon steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, cast aluminum, and die steel. It is commonly used in machining centers, CNC lathes, and manual tapping setups in job shops, production facilities, and maintenance environments. The D5 thread limit designation provides consistent tolerance control across high-volume runs.
Designed for through-hole tapping in alloy steel, aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, hardened steel, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, stainless steel, and die steel. No coolant-through feature; suitable for standard tapping fluids and cutting oils applied externally.
This tap should be installed by a machinist or tooling technician in a rigid tapping chuck or synchronized tapping head to prevent thread damage and tool breakage. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the spindle speed is set per the material and tap manufacturer recommendations before engaging the tap. Apply appropriate cutting fluid to the tap and workpiece before beginning the operation. Do not reverse the tap under load without confirming the machine is set for synchronized reversing to avoid flute damage.
