The OSG 1652503308 is a spiral flute tap designed for threading 1/2-13 UNC holes in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Built from powdered metal and finished with a TiCN coating, this tap delivers increased surface hardness and wear resistance compared to standard HSS tools. It features a 45-degree helix angle that promotes efficient chip evacuation out of the hole, reducing the risk of chip packing during through-hole and shallow blind-hole tapping operations. With a semi-bottoming (modified bottoming) chamfer and a right-hand flute direction, it is suited for jobs requiring thread engagement close to the bottom of a hole. Licensed HVAC techs, machinists, and production floor operators will recognize this as an OSG Series 16525 production tap.
This tap is built for use in alloy steel, aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, hardened steel, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, and stainless steel workpieces. The 2B class of fit and H5 thread limit make it appropriate for general-purpose threaded assemblies requiring standard tolerance. It is well suited for CNC tapping centers, turret lathes, and manual tapping applications in job shops, tool rooms, and production environments where consistent thread quality is required across multiple materials.
Designed for tapping 1/2-13 UNC threads to a 2B class of fit in alloy steel, aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, hardened steel, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, and stainless steel. Part of OSG Series 16525.
Installation is performed by machinists or toolroom professionals using a standard tap wrench, tapping head, or CNC rigid-tapping cycle. Always ensure the workpiece is properly fixtured and that spindle speed and feed rate match the material and tap manufacturer recommendations for the selected material. Verify correct drill size for a 1/2-13 UNC tap prior to tapping; an undersized pilot hole will overload the tap and cause breakage. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant for the workpiece material to reduce heat and extend tool life.
