The OSG 1651505208 is a high-performance spiral point tap designed for threading 1-8 UNC holes in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. It features a plug chamfer, 3 flutes, and a right-hand thread direction. The tap is manufactured from powdered metal (grade PMT15) and finished with a TiCN coating to extend tool life in demanding applications. With a thread limit of H6 and a 2B class of fit, it produces threads that meet standard tolerance requirements for most mechanical assemblies. Licensed machinists, toolroom technicians, and production operators typically run this tap on CNC machining centers, drill presses, or tapping arms.
This tap is suited for through-hole and blind-hole threading operations where a spiral point design pushes chips forward ahead of the cutting edge rather than packing them in the flutes. The broad material compatibility makes it a practical choice for shops working with alloy steel, low-, medium-, and high-carbon steel, stainless steel, die steel, cast iron, aluminum, and cast aluminum. It is a strong fit in production environments where tool consistency and surface finish quality matter across a mix of workpiece materials.
Compatible with alloy steel, aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, hardened steel, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, stainless steel, and die steel workpieces requiring a 1-8 UNC thread at a 2B class of fit.
This tap should be installed and operated by qualified machinists following standard tapping procedures. Before tapping, ensure the drill press, tapping arm, or CNC spindle is fully stopped and the workpiece is securely fixtured. Use an appropriate cutting fluid or tapping compound for the workpiece material, even though coolant-through is not required. Inspect tap condition before each use and replace at first sign of chipping or thread quality degradation to avoid workpiece damage.
