The OSG 1651504608 is a high-performance spiral point tap designed for threading 3/4-16 UNF through holes in production and job-shop environments. Built from powdered metal (PMT15 grade) and finished with a TiCN coating, this plug-style tap handles the heat and abrasion common in demanding threading operations. It features 3 flutes and an H5 thread limit with a 2B class of fit, producing threads that meet standard tolerance requirements. Overall length is 4.331 inches with a thread length of 1.2 inches. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in metalworking, tool-and-die, and maintenance-repair applications will find this tap well suited to high-volume through-hole work.
This tap is rated for use across a broad range of ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials. Documented material compatibility includes alloy steel, aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, hardened steel, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, stainless steel, and die steel. The spiral point geometry pushes chips forward ahead of the cutting zone, making it appropriate for through-hole applications where chip evacuation must be controlled to prevent thread damage. Right-hand threading direction. No coolant-through feature. Not designed for interrupted-thread applications.
Designed for 3/4-16 UNF through-hole threading in alloy steel, aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, hardened steel, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, stainless steel, and die steel. Part of OSG Series 16515.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following standard tapping procedures. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the spindle is properly aligned before engaging the tap to avoid cross-threading or tool breakage. Power down and de-energize the machine before changing tooling. Use the appropriate tapping fluid or coolant for the workpiece material to maximize tool life and thread quality.
