The OSG 1651504508 is a high-performance spiral point tap designed for threading 3/4-10 UNC holes in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Built from powdered metal (PMT15 grade) and coated with TiCN for extended tool life, this plug-chamfer tap drives chips forward ahead of the cutting zone, making it well suited for through-hole applications. It features 3 flutes, a right-hand thread direction, H3 thread limit, and a 3B class of fit. Overall length is 4.921 inches with a thread length of 1.2 inches. The 0.59-inch shank diameter fits standard tap holders used in production and maintenance environments.
This tap is intended for use in both production machining and maintenance-repair-operations settings where reliable 3/4-10 UNC threads are required. The TiCN coating reduces friction and improves wear resistance, extending service intervals when tapping alloy steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, and hardened or high-carbon steels. It belongs to OSG Series 16515 and is packaged as a single tap per unit. Typical applications include threading through-holes in structural components, fixtures, and machine assemblies across general metalworking and industrial maintenance operations.
Rated for use in alloy steel, aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, hardened steel, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, stainless steel, and die steel. No coolant-through feature; standard external coolant or cutting fluid application is appropriate.
Spiral point taps are installed by machinists and maintenance technicians using standard tap holders, CNC tapping heads, or manual T-handle drivers. Always ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the tap is properly aligned before engaging. Power down or lock out any machine tool before manually handling or changing taps. Use an appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to optimize thread quality and tool life.
