The OSG 1651503308 is a high-performance spiral point tap designed for threading 1/2-13 UNC holes in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Built from powdered metal (PMT15 grade) and finished with a TiCN coating, this tap delivers extended tool life in demanding production environments. The plug chamfer style makes it suitable for through-hole threading applications. With a 3-flute spiral point geometry, the tap pushes chips ahead of the cutting edge, reducing clogging during operation. Overall length is 4.331 inches (110 mm), and the thread length is 0.921 inches (23.4 mm). Right-hand cut with an H3 thread limit and 3B class of fit.
This tap is intended for machine tapping operations in production and job shop environments. It performs in a broad range of materials including alloy steel, aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, hardened steel, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, stainless steel, and die steel. The TiCN coating reduces friction and resists heat buildup, making it a reliable choice for high-cycle tapping on CNC machining centers and drill presses. Coolant-through capability is not included; flood or mist coolant applied externally is recommended for harder materials.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct fitment tap for 1/2-13 UNC through-hole threading applications across alloy steel, aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, hardened steel, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, stainless steel, and die steel workpieces.
Installation and use of this tap should be performed by a qualified machinist or tool and die technician. Secure the tap in a properly sized tap holder or rigid tapping chuck before use, and ensure the spindle speed matches the recommended surface footage for the workpiece material. Power down or disengage the machine spindle completely before changing or inspecting taps. Do not reverse the tap under power without confirming the machine is set for tapping cycles, as this can cause tap breakage or thread damage.
