The OSG 1651001808 is a spiral point tap designed for cutting internal metric fine threads in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials. Built to Series 16510 high-performance standards, it features a plug chamfer profile and four flutes that push chips forward ahead of the cutting zone, making it well suited to through-hole tapping operations. The tap is manufactured from powdered metal (PMT15 grade) and finished with a TiCN coating to resist wear and extend tool life in demanding production environments. Overall length is 100 mm (approximately 3.94 inches) with a 24 mm (approximately 0.94 inches) thread length and a shank diameter of approximately 0.429 inches.
This tap is intended for machinists and toolroom technicians working on production or job-shop applications that require M14x1.50 metric fine threads. It carries a 6H class of fit and a D6 thread limit, making it appropriate for standard tolerance threaded assemblies in automotive, industrial, and general machining environments. Compatible material applications include low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, high-carbon steel, alloy steel, hardened steel, die steel, cast iron, stainless steel, aluminum, and cast aluminum.
Rated for use in alloy steel, aluminum, cast aluminum, cast iron, hardened steel, high-carbon steel, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, stainless steel, and die steel workpieces. Designed as a high-performance OEM-style spiral point tap for standard M14x1.50 metric fine through-hole tapping applications.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist using a tapping machine, CNC machining center, or hand tap wrench rated for the torque requirements of the workpiece material. Secure the workpiece firmly before tapping and ensure the tap is properly aligned to avoid cross-threading or tap breakage. Apply a suitable cutting fluid or tapping compound appropriate to the workpiece material to maintain coating integrity and thread quality. Follow shop safety protocols and machine guarding requirements when operating powered tapping equipment.
